Chad le Clos made history on Sunday as he tied for most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete in history.

Le Clos, who was on the cusp of defending his title, had to settle for silver in the men’s 200m butterfly final at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

Swimming in lane 5, Le Clos led for the majority of the race before the final 20m, where he touched the wall in 1:55.89 – 0.29 seconds behind New Zealander Lewis Clareburt.

With the silver, Le Clos is now tied for the most medals won in Commonwealth Games history – joining shooters, Brit Michael Gault and Australian Phil Adams on 18 medals.

Rounding up the podium was Englishman James Guy (1:56.77).

It’s South Africa’s third Commonwealth Games medal so far.
