Nelson Mandela Bay’s unique Swim-Run event, the City Lodge Hotels Group 3 Beaches Challenge, will show off the 3 main stretches of metro beachfront this Sunday morning.

Hobie Beach, Humewood Beach and Kings Beach are all stops on the relay style Swim-Run event which sees competitors entering the water at Pollok Beach and making their way towards Shark Rock pier where they have to exit the water to clock in at Hobie Beach before heading around the 6-pack and onto Humewood Beaches and then the final stretch to finish the swim leg at Kings Beach before setting off on the return run to Something Good at Pollok Beach.

The swim legs of 1.6km, 0.8km and 1.1km offer the opportunity for different levels of swimmers to tackle the challenge with more experienced swimmers in a team perhaps taking on the tougher first leg. Non-swimmers also get an opportunity to take part by doing the run section for team or swim only competitors.

Town Lodge general manager in Port Elizabeth Glenn Pappin has also mentioned the one-of-a-kind nature of the event saying, “I believe the City Lodge Hotels 3 Beaches Challenge is something different from your average fun run or swim event and this uniqueness has contributed hugely to the event’s recent popularity and growth.”

He added that he thought the event would continue to grow seeing as though Nelson Mandela Bay was one of the most active cities in South Africa where people are always looking for events which are different from the norm and conducted in scenic and safe environments.

Someone who will be trying to keep the norm going is 16 year old defending champion Kyle White from Pearson High School. However, he will have his hands full against a field which is becoming increasingly competitive each year. It will be fascinating to see if the talented swimmer will be able to hold off the challengers in an event which tests endurance in and out of the water.

The City Lodge Hotels 3 Beaches Swim-Run Challenge will start at 9am on Sunday morning at Pollok Beach with prize giving for the event taking place at approximately 11am. Pre-race regisration and the race finish will take place on the grass area behind Something Good restaurant. With fantastic prizes up for grabs including a finisher’s medal as unique as the event and a Blu Smooth wetsuit as part of the prizes the 3 Beaches Challenge will be one event not to be missed.
