Chad le Clos wins gold during the opening day of the FINA Swimming World Cup in Doha

The final leg of the FINA Swimming World Cup got underway in Doha today with Mzansi’s Chad le Clos winning top honours in the 100m butterfly.

Le Clos posted a fast and golden time of 51.70 ahead of Poland’s Jakub Maljerski in 52.11 and the USA’s Michael Andrew in 52.38, while in the morning heats session, the Olympian swam the 50m freestyle and finished 14th in 23.23, behind Douglas Erasmus’ 9th place time of 23.00 and ahead of Clayton Jimmie, who touched the wall in 20th place in 23.63.

In the final of the 50m freestyle, Emma Chelius managed a 6th place finish in 25.38, bettering her morning heats time of 25.55 by 0.17secs.

Ayrton Sweeney was in action in the 400m freestyle heats session and concluded in 15th place with a time of 4:01.97.
