American record holder and Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel of Gainesville, Fla. highlights the participants for the Dolfin Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions this weekend in Mission Viejo.

Dressel, 22, has entered the 50- and 100-meter freestyles and the 50 butterfly — events in which he owns the American record at the Olympic distance — along with the 200 free and 100 butterfly for the four-day meet, which starts Thursday at the renovated Marguerite Aquatics Center.

The meet, hosted by the Mission Viejo Nadadores, begins with men’s and women’s 1,500 freestyles on Thursday starting at 5 p.m. Dressel debuts in the 100 free on Friday.

Finals each day begin at 5 p.m.

Dressel is among several swimmers at the meet who will also race next month at the FINA World Championships in South Korea.

The meet also features U.S. members such as Allison Schmitt, Jordan Wilimovsky, Ally McHugh, Jacob Pebley, Lia Neal and Grant Shoults (Santa Margarita), who is returning from shoulder surgery.

Other notable swimmers racing are Olympic gold medalist Tom Shields (Edison), who is bound for the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, in early August, rising breaststroker Annie Lazor of the Nadadores and Olympians Breeja Larson, Haley Anderson and Cierra Runge.

Several Chinese swimmers also are entered in the meet.
