As Brits their unwrapped presents in the comfort of their own home this morning these swimmers braved far cooler temperatures for a host of annual Christmas swims.

Dozens of hardy swimming enthusiasts, with some donning festive attire, took to the likes of London, Dorset and Devon for a traditional festive swim.

Members of the Serpentine Swimming Club lined the deck at London’s Hyde Park before battling it out over a 100-yard (91 metre) handicap shortly after 9am.

The tradition dates back to 1864 and sees swimmers compete for the Peter Pan Cup.

It was given the name by author JM Barrie who donated the prize in 1904 when Peter Pan had first performed on the London stage.
