Swedish swimming star Sarah Sjöström has been on a roll in 2017 — especially at the Mare Nostrum tour during the Monaco and Barcelona stops. The three-time Olympic medalist and current world record holder in the 50-100m butterfly has made a significant leap forward in the freestyle events over the last couple of years. Now, she has shifted away from the 200 — where she earned a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games behind Katie Ledecky — and and toward the 50 and 100.

The shift seems to be paying large dividends.

What changes has she made in her technique to make her freestyle so successful? Check out this interview to find out:

Over the course of the last week, Sjöström has come dangerously close to breaking the world records in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle. The current world record in the 50m freestyle is 23.73 held by Germany’s Britta Steffen from 2009. Sjöström has been 23.95 and 23.96 in the last week alone — as a matter of fact, she went 23.83 back in April. The current world record in the 100m freestyle is 52.06 held by Australia’s Cate Campbell from 2016. Sjöström unloaded a 52.28 just two days ago in Barcelona to challenge that — with Campbell in the field, nonetheless…

So, the question on everyone’s mind seems to be whennot if, Sjöström will break these sprint freestyle world records.
