Stalwarts head Team SA challenge to Budapest

Swimming South Africa has announced the roster of athletes who will represent Team SA at the 2017 FINA World Aquatic Championships that will be staged in Budapest, Hungary from 23 July through to 30 July.

While the squad show some new faces, the challenge will be headed by 2016 Rio Olympians, Chad le Clos, Cameron van der Burgh, Myles Brown and Brad Tandy. The addition of further A qualifiers, Brent Szurdoki, Zane Waddell and the exciting Tatjana Schoenmaker rounds off a stellar group of swimmers who are sure to acquit themselves well in the Hungarian capital.

The addition of a further nine athletes to the roster, all of who were well within the B qualifying times, is seen as an excellent means of exposing some of the countries exciting up and coming talent to competition at the highest level. Familiar faces here include Ayrton Sweeny, Mathew Meyer, Clayton Jimmie and the explosive Douglas Erasmus. Martin Binedell finally gets a chance to perform on the worlds biggest stage, while the inclusion of the promising Kate Beavon, Samantha Randle, Erin Gallagher and Emma Chellius is sure to showcase some of South Africa’s rising female talent.

The squad will be managed by Melanie Wagner while the traveling coaches are headed by National Head Coach, Graham Hill who will be supported by Sibani Makhanya and Andrea di Nino.
