Ariarne Titmus has lowered her personal best in the 200m freestyle for the second time in a week, notching up a new 16 years All Comers age record to boot.

Just last week, Titmus created shockwaves in the pool when she placed second in the 200m freestyle at the Australian Championships, behind Olympic bronze medallist Emma McKeon. Competing in the same race again tonight on Day 4 of the Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Championships, Titmus bettered her time from 1:58.11 to 1:57.90.

“It felt really good out there today,” Titmus said. “I swam 0.2 better than I did at trials and I didn’t expect to go faster, so I’m really happy with that.”

Having already won the 400m, Titmus will now turn her focus to the 800m.

“I’m not sure how fast I’ll go compared to what I did at trials, but I’ll give it just as much effort and hopefully a swim under 8:30 would be nice. But it is the last day of two weeks of racing so it will tough.

In a mirror image of the 400m freestyle earlier in the week, Molly Batchelor of Nunawading took second place in 2:00.31 whilst Marion’s Bethan Mounfield took bronze in 2:02.00.

Thomas Hauck continued his dominance of the 14 years’ division, grabbing two more gold medals in the 50m and 400m freestyle. Elijah Winnington also added to his collection with gold in 200m freestyle with an emphatic swim touching in 1:49.21.

Kaylee McKeown took gold in the 100m backstroke adding to her 200m title earlier in the week. The USC Spartans swimmer also showed more signs of her talent and versatility, taking gold in the 400m individual medley. She has also collected minor medals in the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.
