The squad to represent Team South Africa at the 12th CANA African Senior Championships was announced by Swimming South Africa last week. Forty-three  of South Africa’s finest will fly the flag at the continental showcase which will be hosted at the recently refurbished Municipal Swimming Pool in Manguang, Free State from the 16th October until the 23 October.

To date a total of 23 countries have confirmed their participation at a facility that comes with a rich and illustrious history having been transformed into a state of the art aquatics facility thanks to the efforts of the Manguang Municipality and Free State Aquatics.

South African Olympic medalists Cameron van der Burgh (Tuks) and Chad le Clos (Seagulls) will be the main draw cards for the local aquatics fraternity to come and witness South Africa’s finest locally based swimmers locking horns with the creme of African swimming. Fellow Olympian Myles Brown (Seagulls) is in fine fettle, having tasted success in the FINA Swimming World Cup recently, will be keen to continue in the same vein.

Jarod Crous (Tuks) has loads of talent and is fast reaching potential that will see his status elevated significantly. The likes of Neil Fair (Champion) and Neil de Villiers (Tuks) are rewarded with selection after stellar efforts at the recent SA Short Course Championships that were held in Pietermaritzburg.

Some exciting prospects amongst the ladies it will be the trio of emerging talent in Kaylene Corbett (PEA), Nathania van Niekerk (Tuks) and Rebecca Meader (Tyg) who will head the female challenge. Tatijana Schoenmaker (Tuks), so unlucky to not to make the cut for the Rio 2016 Olympics after having qualified at the SSA Grand Prix event in Stellenbosch is focusing on her studies with her first year varsity exams around the corner.
