South Africa’s Henri Schoeman has won a bronze medal in the triathlon at the Rio Olympics.

Schoeman, brother of 2008 and 2012 Olympic swimmer Riaan Schoeman, was in fifteenth place after the first leg, a 1.5km swim.

He made up some time over the 38.48km cycle, moving up to tenth.

It was on the final leg, a 10km run that Schoeman moved into third, holding on until the finish line.

South Africa’s other participant, Richard Murry finished in fourth place making up many places on the final leg.

The even was won by Alistair Brownlee of Great Britain. The defending champion won in a time of 1:45.01 with his brother Johnny in second.
